I did not fare so poorly in the Oscar predictions after all. I am still not up to my old standards, but hitting 16 out of 24 is nothing to sneeze at. I should have gone with my gut and selected Alan Arkin. I’m glad the Academy spared itself and the world the indignity of permitting DVD covers of the film “Norbit” from bearing the words: “Starring Academy Award winner Eddie Murphy.”
I didn’t watch the entire show as I had a class to prepare for, but from what I saw it looked like a pretty dull affair. I’ve never been a big fan of Ellen de Generes, though she managed some amusing zingers that forced me to crack a smile.
I did miss my favorite parts: the classic movie and the “dearly-departed” montages, both of which usually make me cry. I was especially interested to see if they’d include Anna Nicole Smith (which I hear they did not).
