Tempting Fate

Advertising that your hotel is “modern” is only risking obsolescence; proclaiming it to be “fireproof,” however, is just asking for trouble.

I get a chuckle every time I pass by that building. How did whoever runs the building decide upon these two particular adjectives?

"Modern" has a significant lifespan. Anything that has happened since the Middle Ages can be considered modern.

I read "fireproof" as code for "this place was manufactured in the golden age of asbestos."
