The list of Academy Award nominees was released today. I didn’t get up at 5:30 to watch the event. I can’t handle Mira Sorvino in the morning.
So, let’s see how I did with my Academy Award major category nomination predictions
For Best Actor, David Strathairn bumped perennial Oscar favorite Russell Crowe off the list, which is fine with me as I don’t much care for Mr. Crowe. My Score: 4/5.
No surprises in the Best Actress category, though, in my mind, Keira Knightly was an underdog. I’m glad she made it, and that I had confidence enough in her to put her on the list. I hope she notices…. My Score: 5/5.
I am perfect again in the Best Supporting Actor race. My Score: 5/5.
For Best Supporting Actress, Amy Adams in Junebug broke the Academy’s code, Section 4(h), which states that an actress I’ve never heard of who starred in a movie I never heard of can’t be nominated for an Oscar. Still, Rachel Weisz will walk away with this one, so it doesn’t really matter. My Score: 4/5. (under protest)
Steven Spielberg unexpectedly wormed his way in to Best Picture and Best Director categories. I thought nobody liked Munich? It’s a double bummer because I think Fernando Meirelles of The Constant Gardener deserved it. Anyone who can make me cry like that needs at least a nomination. My Score for both: 8/10.
Final score: 26/30 for an overal Predictive Average of .867.
I reserve the right to revise my predictions for the winners as the event draws near and the buzz winds shift.
