My Cheating Stomach

Amy and I cheated today. On the South Beach Diet, that is. We went to brunch with some friends and indulged in eggs Benedict, part of a cinnamon roll, and some potatoes. All in all, I didn’t think too much of it … until about hour later.

We hadn’t seen Kacey and Chris for over a month, and we haven’t eaten out in about that long, so we were happy to plan a “cheat meal” with them when their schedules freed up to allow for a leisurely Saturday brunch.

The place we went to is noted for their Benedicts. Amy and I both ordered the version with lox instead of Canadian bacon. We also split a huge cinammon role amongst the four of us.

About an hour later, I was playing with Ray and I very suddenly started to feel all funny and weak. Ray wanted to play this game where I stretch my legs across the coffee table like a bridge and he pretends he’s a tall boat that needs the “drawbridge” to go up. Except I couldn’t make my legs go up; they were too weak. And I’ve even been doing Pilates for two weeks, now!

Luckily, it was just about time for his nap, so Amy took him off and I staggered into our bed room and crashed on our bed and slept for an hour.

If I had been driving or out-and-about, I don’t know what would have happened.

Now I’m all concerned that I’ll never be able to enjoy or indulge in rich foods without this happening. Of course, I know I’m supposed to up my allotment of “bad” foods as soon as I hit my target weight, so maybe the key is to just do this gradually and not have an entire meal devoted to “cheating” until things are better regulated in my system.

On the plus side, I weighed in this morning around 163, which is actually below my target weight of 165 and represents a nearly 15 pound loss in a month.
